This is the main artwork for the “HANAKOTOBA” exhibition.
As someone who deeply loves flowers,
I paired photographs of flowers I had casually been taking over the years
with my own original “HANAKOTOBA”—personal words inspired by each bloom.
Real flowers eventually wither,
and the feelings that arise
when we stop to look at them
will also, surely, fade someday.
That is exactly why
I wanted to preserve them
for as long as possible.
If you choose to display this piece
in a space that is dear to you,
I would be very happy.
I also carefully adjusted the colors
(and I’m very happy with how they turned out).

[Statement]
HANAKOTOBA is an attempt to give form to emotion through words.
There are feelings that cannot be put into words. There are also feelings that change the moment they are spoken aloud.
That is why I placed just one word beside each flower photograph.
It is better when it is almost unreadable.
When flowers and white letters appear side by side, it feels as though the feeling itself can remain, just as it is.
I call the distance that emerges between flower and word “HANAKOTOBA.”
